HISTORY OF BARANGAY BANBAN
Historical Background
Banban was created by royal decree during the Spanish Era,. Its name was derived from a certain kind of shrub that grew in the place during that time. Upon the arrival of the spaniards on the shores of Siquijor, through curiosity, asked about the dense and myriad shrubs that were prominent feature of the place, and learned that it was locally called “BANBAN”. From then on, the place was called Banban,however, those crawling vegetation’s are now extinct locally and what one can see today is the lofty green mangroves lining in its pearly shoreline.
Barangay Banban also has a line of institutions, the Banban National High School, and the Banban Elementary School. The barangay is also the seat of the San Roque Parish with its church located at the center of the barangay. In addition, the barangay have its own water system serving 210 household.
